The Topeka Journal Friday brought the news of the death of Mrs. W.S. Child, aged 78, who died Thursday night at her home, 1535 West 15th street in Topeka.
She was born Sept. 11, 1857, in Michigan, came to Kansas in 1874 and was a resident of Topeka since 1929. She was a member of the Euclid Ave. M.E. church. She lived in Kaw a good many years before going to Topeka.
Her maiden name was Nettie Griffin and she was married to Willis S. Child at Newbury in 1879. He died May 3, 1911. Mrs. Child had been a member of the M.E. church for 60 years. She was a loving mother, a loyal friend and neighbor and many will remember her goodness of heart and kind deeds.
She is survived by six sons, S.W. Child and W.C. Child, of Topeka; Harold Child of Manhattan; Ed Child of Boston, Mass.; Marion Child, of Maple Hill and D.C. Child of Elmont and a brother, Berkley Griffin, of Wamego, also by a grand and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday at 1:30 o'clock from a Topeka mortuary. Burial was at Greenwood cemetery in Kaw, with short services at the grave, Rev. Borton officiating.
