John William “Bill” Badger age 87, of Jefferson, died Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Bill was born December 20, 1929 in Ashe County to Roy Rudolph and Bessie Hartzog Badger. Mr. Badger was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Johanna Bottoms, sisters, Eula Johnson, Edith Conklin, brother, James Badger and wife, Martha Badger. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War era. Bill enjoyed going hunting, and attending local athletic events. Mr. Badger was a member of Ashe Masonic Lodge #594 A.F.A.M, The Odd Fellows and Ashe Shrine Club. Bill and his wife Martha liked to travel places together, and many times were seen together at different local music venues.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 6:00 pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. John Elledge. Burial will follow in Jefferson Cemetery with Masonic Rites. Mr. Badger is survived by: sons, John Badger, Jr. of West Jefferson and Jeff Badger of Jefferson, daughters, Jackie Little of West Jefferson and Mary Francis Huttchins of Gafney, SC, grandson who Bill raised as a son, Nicholas Bottoms, sister, Giona Badger Cook of Jefferson also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
