Paul Ewell Calef, 69, of LaPlata, died unexpectedly following a heart attack Sunday night, October 30, 1977 at 10:30 in the LaPlata Nursing Home where he had been a resident since 1974.

Born July 15, 1908 in the Star community south of Gibbs. He was the son of Fred and Anna Young Calef. On May 13, 1933, he married Erma Ziegler and to his marriage four children were born.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Weslie Evelyn Wellborn of LaPlata; three sons, Laverne Calef of Lawrence, Kan., and Paul Junior Calef and Robert Calef, both of LaPlata; and nine grandchildren.

Mr. Calef was a life-long resident of the Gibbs community where he was engaged in farming. He also was in the trucking business until his retirement in 1968 due to ill health. Since 1970 he had made his home in LaPlata.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon November 2, 1977 at 1:30 in the Pollock Funeral Chapel in LaPlata. The Reverend Stanley East, Jr., pastor of the LaPlata Christian Church will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Gibbs Union cemetery.
