Mary Kirkland Anthony Powell, 89, of Lower Burrell, died Wednesday (Jan. 28, 2004) in Belair Health and Rehabilitation Center, Lower Burrell.

Born Jan. 29, 1914, in the Braeburn area of Lower Burrell, she was a lifelong resident of the Alle-Kiski Valley.

She was a 1932 graduate of New Kensington High School.

A school bus driver for 25 years, she worked for the former Mark Lines.

Mrs. Powell was a member of the Alle-Kiski Senior Citizens Center of New Kensington and New Kensington Women of the Moose of Lower Burrell.

Survivors include two sons, Ret. Lt. Col. George A. (Peggy) Powell of O'Fallon, Ill., and John F. (Joan) Powell of Lower Burrell; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Harriett Oakley of Seminole, Fla.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, George Powell Jr., Kathy Hardsock, John S. Powell, Shannon Barrett, Robin Rzewnicki, John F. Powell III, Raquel Pikula and Angella MacDonald.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Anthony, in 1955; her second husband, Clarence Powell, in 1978; her parents, Isaac and Harriett Painter Kirkland; and a brother, Alvin Kirkland.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., New Kensington, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Officiating will be the Rev. Ralph W. Brownfield of Arnold. Private burial will be in Union Cemetery, Arnold. Women of the Moose will meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
