Milton Newton was born August 31, 1844, in Greenbrier county (sic), Virginia, and departed this life at Nelson, Nebraska, November 18, 1920, at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 18 days. When a small child his family moved to Stark county (sic), Illinois, and here it was that Milton grew to young manhood. He was married September 7th, 1870, to Miss Sarah Hensleigh at Abingdon, Ills. As a result of of this union there are four children, viz.: John Lewellyn of Beatrice, Nebr.; Winfred Eugene of Luverne, Minn.; Mrs. Gertrude Reeves and Earnest Milton of Nelson. In 1870 Mr. and Mrs. Newton moved to Jasper county (sic), Iowa. After living here several years they moved to Garfield county (sic), Nebraska, and later came to Nuckolls county (sic), living on a farm west of Nelson. After a short stay they moved back to Iowa, where Mrs. Newton died a little over fourteen years ago. In January, 1907, Mr. Newton and children returned to Nelson. He built a home in the south part of town, where he has since resided up until his death. From his early life Mr. Newton was a Christian and a member of the church. He united with the M.E. church (sic) years ago when he came back to Nelson to make his home. He was a quiet, yet active, member of the church and a member for a number of years of the official board. For several years he has been in a declining state of health and for a number of months has been unable to attend the services of the church, but his interest was not lessened thereby and his Christian faith was maintained until the end, when he was called to his reward. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. H.G. Wilcox at the Methodist church Friday morning at half past ten o'clock. The remains were shipping to Farragut, Iowa, Saturday morning for burial. His sons accompanied the body.
