Funeral services were held Saturday, April 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Choteau with Rev. Marlow Engberg officiating. She died Thursday, April 18 after a six year illness.
Born in Hedemark, Norway and came to the U.S. as an infant. The family first settling at Hancock, Mich. Then moved to Minnesota where she attended school and later moved to Montana. She married Charles Swortzel at Havre on Aug. 7, 1916. The couple ranched in the Havre area until 1922 then they farmed in Cascade, Fergus and Teton counties. They operated the White Birch Motel at Kalispell for 10 years and in 1963 they returned to Choteau. She was a member of the Lutheran Church; was active in the church women’s group; and served as Sunday School superintendent for a number of years.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Robert of Choteau and Richard of Dayton, Ohio; foster daughter, Loretta Miller of Boise, Idaho; five grandsons; three foster granddaughters; brothers and sisters living in Minnesota; nieces and nephews.
