Served as a gunner with Company D, 51st Infantry in Germany. Received the 7th Army's Order of Gold Patriots in 1961. Also had a tour 21 October 1963 through 1 June 1965.

His father was a farmer near La Grange Missouri and enlisted in the medical branch of the Army in 1919.

His step-grandfather was 63055247 Otto Marvin Pullum. He served during WW I. He married [Mrs.] May Simmons 23 December 1943 in Palmyra Missouri. He died 26 October 1954. Otto and 63055379 May Pullum are both buried at Sunset cemetery in Quincy Illinois.
