Only the most recent newcomers to the area would not have known Dr. Rhett Enzor, who passed away Monday. He is almost as much a part of the community's history as the city's county seat.
He was an old timer, not by age-only but by principle. He was a doctor first. Money and paperwork were only necessary evils. There were many, many years that he treated patients in exchange for chickens and vegetables.
Even to the day of his death on July 28, he was still known to treat numerous patients with full knowledge that they could not pay.
Dr. Enzor never desired celebrity status. To the contary, he was adamant about keeping his name and photographs out of newspapers or publications. He was from the old school and did not believe doctors advertise in any form.
Dr. Enzor was a personality full of dedication and concern for his patients, along with a love of life, family, friends, hunting and laughter.
For those who have known him over the years, he is immortalized in our hearts. We may hang up his stetoscope, but we will never forget him.
Funeral services for Dr. Enzor were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29 at Whitehurst Funeral Home, US Hwy 90 West, Crestview followed with burial in Live Oak Memorial Park.
Enzor is survived by his wife, Opal; a son, Rhett Enzor, Jr. of Milligan; sister, Eugenia Enzor Booth of Crestview; several nieces and nephews and literally thousands of friends.
