Arrangements under the direction of Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels, Miami, FL.Sylvia Berger Kalin passed away peacefully in Aventura on March 10, 2017 at the age of 91. She was born in Passaic NJ, the first of three children to Sadie and Joseph Berger. She graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1946 and lived in Mount Vernon NY before marrying Morton Kalin in 1948. She lived in Towanda PA, Manotick Ontario and Hollywood as the family businesses moved.
She was a life-long avid golfer, travelling the world to play. One special moment was an amateur tournament hole-in-one at Spyglass Golf Course at Pebble Beach CA. She enjoyed the friendship of LPGA golfers while providing her guestroom and hospitality to them when they were on Tour.
She was a 46-year supporter of Hollywood Memorial Hospital, beginning as a "candy striper" and serving as a Foundation Director.
She was a 46-year supporter of the Jewish Federation of Broward County, serving as a Trustee and as Women's' Division President.
She and her husband Morton where active with the Posnack JCC donating a sculptured Tree of Life to their lobby and a play area for the kindergarden.
She was a long-time member of Temple Beth El in Hollywood.
She is preceded by her parents and her brother Adolph Berger. She is survived by her sister Dr. Bernice Miller of Bal Harbour, her husband of 68 years Morton Kalin of Aventura, her children Susan Kalin of Birmingham AL and Dr. Jack Kalin (Olivia) of Wilsonville AL, her grandchildren Joseph Kalin of Birmingham AL and Sarah Kalin of Los Angeles CA, her sister-in-law Beatrice Kalin Rosenbloom of Longmeadow MA, her sister-in-law Helene Berger of Coconut Grove FL, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Temple Beth El in Hollywood on March 14, 2017 1:30 PM with interment at Temple Beth El Memorial Gardens in Davie.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Jewish Federation of Broward County, Memorial Hospital Foundation of Hollywood, Jewish Childrens' Regional Service of New Orleans LA or a charity of your choice.
