Charlie was shown as 8-year-old "J. C. Bewley" in the 1870 census in the household headed by his mother, C. D. Bewley, who was a widow then. Based on that reported/recorded age in 1870, he was about 13 years old when he died of Typhoid fever in 1875. He would have been only about 6 years old when his father died in 1868.

While his obituary identifies his interment location as the First Baptist Church yard, it is probably that his remains were relocated to Silver Brook Cemetery at the same time his parents' remains were relocated there.
