James L. Ard, passed away, Friday, March 10, 2016, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He loved his family, his community, his country and of course his Louisville Cardinals. He and his spouse married October 29, 1953 and other than two years he spent in the Army, they were never separated in over 63 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, retired from Nationwide Uniform after 34 years of service, a U.S. Army veteran serving at Fort Knox and Germany from 1954 to 1956 . He often contributed his time to the Larue County community that took many forms. He would make baskets for auction to benefit the LaRue County Women's Club. He also did many projects at the Lincoln Museum where his talents as a master craftsman helped him find solutions to the challenges of an old building on a small budget. He was an avid Louisville Cardinals fan who tried to never miss a game on tv and proudly wore his Rick Pitino signed hat for "special occasions". James was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Ard and Ethel Roten Ard Hawk; a sister, Ruth Turner and a brother, Allen Ard. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, three brothers, 19 nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 AM Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville, Rev. Gordon McDowell officiating. Burial will follow in the Red Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 PM Monday and after 9 AM Tuesday at the funeral home.
