DerMont Bell
1930 - 2017

Early Life: DerMont was born August 12, 1930, in Roosevelt, Utah, to Elmer L. and Rachel Hair Bell, the youngest of their four sons. He attended American Fork High School where he served as student body president.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: Following high school, he served a mission to the Hawaiian Islands for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and attended Brigham Young University where he earned both Bachelor and Master of Science degrees. After earning his Ph.D. from USC in 1959, he was offered a teaching position at BYU in the College of Business. While teaching at BYU, he met and later married his sweetheart and wife of 53 years, Linda Irene Besner. They were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple on December 18, 1961, and settled in Provo, Utah, where they raised their six children. DerMont spent his professional life teaching Business Education and Communication at BYU. Early in his career, he moved his family to Saudi, Arabia, where he worked as an advisor to the Saudi government. He also spent time in Nepal working for the Ford Foundation and later, served as National President of Delta Pi Epsilon fraternity. DerMont was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the opportunity to serve wherever he was needed. He particularly enjoyed his time serving as a missionary, home teacher, bishop and stake president. After retiring from BYU in 1995, DerMont and Linda served a full-time mission to Singapore and Malaysia. After their return home, he served in the Provo Utah Temple as an ordinance worker, sealer and member of the temple presidency. DerMont loved to read, write, garden, work in his yard, and travel; especially to Hawaii where he developed a deep love of its people and culture as a young missionary. He was an avid supporter of BYU athletics and rarely missed a game. However, his greatest joys in life came from spending time with his family and serving in his church callings. DerMont Bell passed away peacefully on March 6, 2017, in Highland, Utah, surrounded by his children. He was 86.
