Dr John Blair Cobb
Dr. J. B. Cobb was born in 1823, and died Sept. 3, 1879. He was educated at West Point; but a military life not agreeing with his health, he came home and studied medicine. He married Miss Sophia Helen McClure in 1852. They have two children, both of whom are married to ministers belonging to the Memphis Conference. Several months before his death he made a bright avowal of his trust in Jesus. We, his children, and our mother, were overjoyed, for he had so long claimed that morality was the only thing necessary to salvation. His death was a grand triumph of Christian faith. His last words were to his faithful wife: "You will meet me up there. I am dying at last, and I am going to heaven." He was a man of splendid intellect, and a most tender and loving heart. We his children were far away in our itinerant homes when he died, but we turned to our dear mother to help us to bear the blow; but only last spring we laid her away neath the violets, and now only we two are left.
