POCATELLO - Kenneth A. Croney, 81, of Pocatello, left this earthly sojourn March 6, 2003, at home, with his wife and daughter by his side. Ken was born August 19, 1921, at home, the son of Daniel and Nettie Rawlins Croney. He graduated from North Gem High School in Bancroft. He attended BYU for three years, and then attended University of Utah, where he received a degree in electronics and a minor in math.

He married Mary McViegh on Oct. 4, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pa. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on Oct. 4, 1950.

He was a combat veteran of World War II, having served five years, three and a half of which were in the Pacific Island invasions, and was honorably discharged. He worked for Bell Engineering Labs in New Jersey for 32 years, and was part of the development and testing of the first U2 spy plane. He was a member of the International Electrical Engineers. He retired in 1984.

He served in many different callings in the LDS Church, serving on the Stake High Council, served four stake missions, stake mission presidency, branch presidency, a teacher in Sunday school and the priesthood quorums. He served a full-time mission with his wife to the Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh Mission from 1986 to 1987. Returning to his roots here in Idaho, he loved to fish, read, and travel. He enjoyed working around the yard and house.

Ken was a kind and gentle man, a man without guile, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, Pocatello; one daughter, Sarah (James) Albert of Seattle, Washington; one son, Daniel R. (Sandra) Croney, Pocatello; Jean (John) Herbert of Clark Fork, Idaho; six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Raymond and Doyle, two sisters, Maxine and Leona.
