Daniel Manuel Kissler, Dan, formally from Bennett, Colorado, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2017 at Brookdale in Ft. Collins, Colorado at the age of 91.
Dan was born July 2nd, 1925 in Goodrich, Colorado to German- Russians, Henry Kissler Sr. and Marie Katherine Zeiler Kissler of Frank, Russia. Dan was the 3rd youngest out of 12 children and the last living. His parents and the 4 oldest children immigrated to Loveland from Frank, Russia in 1913. Dan spent his younger years in Loveland, Ft. Morgan and Keenesburg, Colorado farming beets, alfalfa and wheat. He attended school until the 10th grade; he quit to help work the family farm.
He enlisted in the Army in 1944 and served in the First Cavalry Division in the South Pacific and was with the occupational forces in Japan, Technician Radio Operator, 532nd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment. Dan was given an honorable discharge in 1947.
After the Army, Dan and his brother, Harold, leased ground and built a farming program of wheat, barley, corn and alfalfa for 10 years. He married Dolores McLean in 1949. The Kissler Farm Home Place was purchased in 1958 in Bennett, Colorado. The basic operation over the years was dry land farming. He had a common sense approach to farming and a deep commitment to agriculture. He, also, raised commercial Limousine and Angus cattle in the 60’s and 70’s and exhibited carloads at the Denver National Western Stock Show. In 1970 Harold and Dan purchased the Watkins, Colorado grain elevator. In 1982, Dan secured a contract with Turkey to export seed wheat for three years. Dan continued to farm until he retired in 2002 and moved to Aurora, Colorado with Dolores. During retirement years, Dan and Dolores enjoyed owning and racing quarter horses and thoroughbreds. They traveled many times to Oklahoma and New Mexico to watch their horses’ race. Dan and Dolores were frequent visitors to the Arapahoe Race Track.
Dan served on the Bennett School Board, Chairman Arapahoe County ASCS Committee for 30 years, Chairman of Arapahoe County Weed Control Committee, Adams County Fair Board, 4-H Leader, Arapahoe County Advisory Committee, CSU Extension Service, Board Member of the Cancer League of Colorado, and Chairman of the North American Limousine Foundation National Show and Sale, National Western International Agribusiness Committee, and Director of the National Western Stock Show. Dan was nominated to be accepted into the Colorado Agricultural Hall of Fame in 1999.
Dan was an extremely visionary man who challenged himself and continually tried to better himself. His career diversity was an example to others of what can be accomplished. Dan’s life story represents “the American dream”. Dan always gave thanks for his many successes and blessings to The Lord. He had a strong faith and believed the Lord walked and guided him through his life’s journey.

Dan lived his last few years at Brookdale Memory Care Center in Ft. Collins, Co.
Daniel is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings; his wife, Dolores (2011) of 62 years; and Connie, his oldest daughter.
