Dear Ms. Joann Watson:

Thank you for contacting the VA National Cemetery Administration (NCA) regarding your request for the burial location Mr. Aaron Bumgarner.

We reviewed our files and could find no record of Mr. Bumgarner's interment in a Department of Veterans Affairs national cemetery. However, to be of assistance to you we asked the National Cemetery Administration historians to conduct further research and she provided the below information.

Most likely A. Bumgarner was buried as an unknown after the Battle of Pea Ridge in March 1862. In Volume 10 of the Roll of Honor, where interments from Pea Ridge are recorded, only 81 of the 702 listed are known. Those buried at Pea Ridge were later reinterred in national cemeteries in Springfield, Missouri and Fayetteville, Arkansas. This would explain why the inquirer has been unable to locate his name/grave in civil war era cemeteries or find his grave through the Nationwide Gravesite Locator. We didn't find anything to add to what was provided about his service, death and burial place. Likely he is buried as an unknown at Springfield or Fayetteville national cemeteries.

We hope this information is helpful.

Occupation:
He was a farmer in Marshfield, Webster, MO at the time of his enlistment into Company "I" July 27, 1861 in Springfield, MO. Rank: Private. Height: 5'8". Hair: Brown. Eyes: Grey. Complexion: Fair. He mustered into service October 15, 1861 at St. Louis, MO.
