Laura and James were married on 2 Jul 1848 in Sumter South Carolina by the Justice of Peace, Squire Backwell with James' daughter Mary Letitia and son William Sylvester attending. In 1949 they started a 6 month jouney by wagon to Pike County Alabama. The region they settled in was later formulated into Crenshaw County. They acquired 3 land grants. The last of which was after the death of James. Most of the family resided in the Mount Ida/New Providence vicinities around current towns of Brantly, Glenwood and Luverne.
