Born in Hames City, FL, daughter of William Ervin Owens Sr (1904–1982) and Syble M. McCracken Owens (1914–1970); wife of Pvt Alvin Ray Ponds Sr (1933–1997 (m. 1953).
A homemaker and member of Southside Freewill Baptist Church in Valley Falls, SC.
Survived by her sons, Dale Ponds, Sr. (Rhonda), Darrell Ponds (Susan), Timothy Allen Ponds, and Alvin Ray Ponds, Jr. (Onnie); daughters, Cathy Greene (John), Susan Batten (Stan), and Alice Hughes (Spence); brothers, James Otis "Jimmy" Owens, and J.T. Owens (1941-2020), Oscar Owens Sr (1942–2008), and Danny Owens (1945-2009); sisters, Shelby Jean Howard and Bonnie Wallace; thirteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Also predeceased by siblings, William Irvin Owens, Jr. (1930-2007), Richard Owens (1936-1993), Evelyn Jeanette Owens Rowe (1937-1996), Robert Benjamin Owens (1948-2002).
The family received friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Friday, May 11, 2007. at Blakely Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, May 12, 2007, at Southside Freewill Baptist Church in Valley Falls conducted by Rev. Henry Guyton; interment was in Boiling Springs Memorial Park, Boiling Springs, SC.
