Following her high school graduation, Mary began her teaching career in a one room school house in Harmonsburg. She went on to earn her teaching degree on May 5, 1937 from the former Edinboro Normal School. She then became employed at Saegertown Elementary School, and later by Crawford Central School District where she spent most of her career teaching at the former Fredericksburg Elementary School, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Pennsylvania Society for Retired Teachers.
Mary is survived by six nieces and nephews Philip Mahoney, Jr., Kirk Mahoney, John "Jack" Mahoney and his wife Ona, Kathleen Sarkis and her husband Paul, Gary Mahoney, Deborah Mahoney, six great nieces and nephews Matthew Mahoney, Shannon Mahoney, Kelly Sarkis, Mallory Sarkis, Patrick Mahoney and Marshall Sarkis.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by four brothers Joseph Mahoney, Philip Mahoney, John "Regis" Mahoney, William Mahoney and a nephew Joseph Mahoney.
