Born at Rehoboth in the county of Bristol, He removed to this town in 1773, was an officer in the army of the revolution of 1776, a member of the convention which formed the constitution of this state in 1780, a judge of the court of common pleas, four and judge of probate twenty eight years. In all the relations of life, he sustained a character of unshaken integrity. He lived as a follower of Christ, was an able advocate of his doctrines, and died, rejoicing in a gospel hope.
