Moses was the son of Isham Belcher (13 Oct 1769, Bedford [now Franklin] Co., VA - 23 Jan 1823, Tazewell Co., VA) and Nancy Blankenship.

Moses was on the Tazewell Co., VA, 1833 tax roll with no personal property. He married Nancy Tabor on December 17, 1836, by James Charles. They lived next to James Tabor, Nancy's widowed father near Falls Mills, VA. In 1851, Moses, a farmer, was one of the trustees to which was conveyed 2 and 3/4 acres for the Methodist Episcopal Church (Macedonia Methodist Church). His will is found in the Tazewell Co., VA Will Book #4, on page 307, written January 15, 18869 and probated February 1871.

Moses and Nancy's daughter, Harriett R. Belcher, born January 20, 1856, Mud Fork, Tazewell Co., VA, is presumed to have died between 1860 and 1870.
