There seems to be a ponderous amount of John Belchers in our Belcher genealogy. Confusing in every way…. This John Belcher was married to Jane (Jincy / Jenny) Nuckolls in Tazewell, Virginia. Their bond, posted on April 29, 1815, prior to their marriage, used the names John & Jenney. The marriage records indicate that John and Jincy Nuckles were "Joined together in Holy Estate of Matrimony" by John Perry on May 5, 1815.

In the 1820 census, there are 3 John Belchers in the Tazewell census. 1 Isham (II), 1 Jesse, and 1 Obediah. 2 of these Johns held slaves. One had 1 slave; the other 4.

I propose this. Isham Belcher, father of our John above, lived in Tazewell, Virginia, with his adult sons (John & Obediah) and his older brother, John Belcher, and his adult sons, Jesse and John (Jr.) This John, the older brother, moved to Indiana…. Our John above died in Logan, WV, as did his one and only wife, Jane.

From the records we find, our John Belcher, son of Isham, was likely born in Franklin (formerly Bedford), Virginia. His parents were bonded/married in Franklin county on January 3, 1791; John was probably born that year or in 1792. The last land Isham bought in Franklin county, was at Snow Creek in 1816. Snow Creek is also the site of a Belcher Cemetery.

As mentioned,Isham and his family with his brother's first show up in 1820 Tazewell census. In 1822, Isham bought 150 acres on Laurel Creek, and dies the following year. Isham's son, Isham, Jr., and many of his younger brothers remain in Tazewell for a number of years. Eventually several, including John Belcher and Jane move on to Mercer, WV. They all seemed to be involved in agriculture…. Farming.

In 1860, Mercer, John is recorded as having $75.00 of personal property. By 1870, John and Jincy have moved to Logan, West Virginia, with their daughter, Martha, and her husband, John Bell. Nothing more is known at this time. The date of his death is not confirmed. Both John and Jane appear to have died before the 1880 US Census.
