Morganton February 10, 1953, Horace F. Payne, 82, retired station and ticket agent for the Southern Railway here, died last night in Grace Hospital after an illness of about two weeks. He had been employed by the railway for some 60 years.
Funeral will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in First Methodist Church here with the pastor, Rev. E. K. McClarty, Jr., officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
A native of Burke County, Payne was the son of the late Rev. Jordan Payne and Annie Warlick Payne, Burke County pioneers. He retired about five years ago from railway service.
