Esther Mae Overholt, 96, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully Saturday April 15, 2006, at her home on Old Mission Peninsula.

Born Feb. 6, 1910, in Levering, to George and Sarah (Grant) Adams, Esther was the sixth of seven children. Her five sisters and one brother are all deceased.

Esther attended school in Levering and Pellston. In June of 1930, she married Leon N. Overholt, who preceded her in death in 1987. Together they had three sons, Jerry, Bob and Noel.

Esther and Leon moved from Petoskey to Traverse City in 1935. She had lived on East Bay for the last 51 years, and loved being on the water.

Esther lived close to the Lord in her own way; by being Christ-like in kindness, generosity, humility and understanding of others.

Surviving Esther are her sons, Jerry L. (Barbara) of Traverse City and Dr. Robert (Dorothy) of Ludington; former daughter-in-law, Marilyn Bum of Traverse City; grandchildren, Scott, Jana and David Overholt, Leigh Anne Fredline and Brad Overholt, Steven, Bonnie and Kraig Overholt, and Kendra Pauline; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death was her son, Noel; grandsons, Kenn and Leon; and a great-granddaughter, Hailey.

Esther was grateful to the caring, helpful family members who enabled her to maintain her independence in her own home. She will be lovingly missed by her family, who know she is happy now and no longer wondering about the eternal world where God loves her and has welcomed her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Homer Nye officiating. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
