"Helen Louise Shaw Hopkins, 102, of Lake Wylie, SC, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at The Crossing at Steele Creek, Charlotte, NC.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Journey, 5415 Hwy 557, Clover, SC with the Rev. Kenny Ashley officiating. Inurnment will be held at the Des Moines Masonic Cemetery at a later date.

Mrs. Hopkins was born September 10, 1914 in Des Moines, IA to the late Frank B. and Beulah Shutt Shaw. She was preceded in death by her husband William Vance Hopkins, Sr., son William Vance Hopkins, Jr., two sisters and two brothers. Mrs. Hopkins was a graduate of East High School in Des Moines and was married in February 1935. They lived in Chicago, Washington, Des Moines, and last at Lake Panorama, Iowa before moving to Lake Wylie. She owned and operated a bookstore for over eight years at Lake Panorama. Mrs. Hopkins worked three days a week at Sweet Repeat Thrift Store in Lake Wylie and was a board member for the Lake Wylie Community Bible Study until age 95.

Survivors are her daughter Jerene Anne McClain of Lake Wylie, SC; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
