McMinnville, TN. resident and Waycross, GA native Norment Arthur Barnes, Jr., age 78, was born March 17, 1938 and died February 13, 2017 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville, TN following a sudden illness.

A retired owner of Norment Barnes State Farm Insurance, served with the United States Coast Guard Geodetic Survey, and a member of Christ United Methodist Church, he was the son of the late Norment Arthur and Margaret Estelle Lea Barnes, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by granddaughter, Kayla Crothers; and brother-in-law, Bert James.

He was married January 26, 1963 to Paula Short Barnes of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Norm and Julie Barnes, III of Atlanta, GA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Holly and Jonathan Jordan of Nashville, TN and Melany and Michael Crothers of McMinnville, six grandchildren, Laurn Crothers, Trey Crothers, Reagan Jordan, Eli Jordan, Margaret Jordan and Jenna Barnes; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Janice Barnes of Waycross, GA; two sisters and brother-in-law, June James of Waycross, GA and Susan and Mack Strickland of Waycross, GA; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Barnes was an active leader of the Boy Scouts of American, where he was a recipient of the BSA Long Rifle Award. He was an active supporter of the Auburn Tigers and was Auburn University Alumni. He was the church treasure at Christ United Methodist Church and one of the founding members of the Warren County Republican Party.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2017 at Christ United Methodist Church with Ricky Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at High' and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Christ United Methodist Church, or charity of your choice.
