In 1910 Earl was living with his great aunt Nancy Jane Bolen and husband, Charles Edmund Jenkins, along with half-sister Ruth Bolen in Perry TWP, Licking Co, Ohio. By 1917 he had WW-I draft registration in Mingo Co, WV and shows up as a boarder at the home of Chloe and Joseph Sampson Maynard in Lee, Mingo Co, WV, along with boarders, Russell and Ellen Workman, ages 15 and 13 respectively.

By 1935 census Earl and Chloe are in Delbarton, Mingo Co, WV, and by 1940 are in Hanover, Licking Co, Ohio. By 1942 he has a WW-II draft registration back in Mingo Co, WV, listing Chloe Bolen as his wife. He died in Kentucky and was buried in Stuart-White Cemetery of Bias, WV, a cemetery that seems to be lost in Mingo County historical records to date.
