Helen Acuff Caton, age 90, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017. She was a member of Lincoln Park Baptist Church and was retired from Cameron Barkley, formerly Browning Belting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Cora Acuff; and dear son, Stanley Shields. Also preceded in death by 5 brothers and 5 sisters. She is survived by her devoted son, Steve Shields; grandchildren, Steve and Dawna Jenkins, Cynthia Shields, Rog Shields, Stacy Shields, Vicki Jones, and Chris Shields; also 9 great-grandchildren. The family would also like to thank her very special nieces whom she loved very much: Debbie, Angel, Jean Evelyn, JoNetta, and Patti; also brother-in-law, Gene Wood, and very special nephew, Rev. Gene Wood, Jr. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Cassandra Gibbs, MD, Dr. Ross Kerns, MD, Dr. Ronald Estes, MD, Dr. Srinivas Boppana, MD ("Dr. Bo-Peep") and Amedisys Hospice Services: Rachel Shea, RN, and Laura Ruble, LCSW. Also to Sally Williams and Nancy Gaines from Comfort Keepers for the care and kindness extended to Helen and her family during the last few years.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel. Family and friends will meet at 12:45 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Lynnhurst Cemetery for 1:00 p.m. graveside services with Rev. Gene Wood, Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity .
