July 18, 1928 - Feb. 9, 2017
McCOOK, Neb. -- Floyd Gilbert Bales passed away on Thursday (Feb. 9, 2017) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska.
He was born on July 18, 1928 to Clarence Cecil and Polly (Burgess) Bales. Floyd grew up in McCook and attended McCook Public Schools.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served three years before being honorably discharged in 1950. He returned to McCook, met and married Norma Jean Stinnette in 1952. To this union, five children were born. Floyd and Jean lived most of their married life in Trenton, New Jersey, returning to McCook in 1973 where Floyd was employed by Electric Hose and Rubber (Parker) from 1974 - 1989. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and played the part of a couple of clowns, "Snazzo" and "Dr. Morbid." He sold nuts and candies on the Mountain man route for several years.

On June 14, 1980 he married Carla Cruver and gained four stepchildren. Floyd loved playing sports when he was young, coaching baseball, and watching his children and grandchildren compete in various sporting activities. He loved visiting with people and telling stories and jokes. Even in his last days, he had a story or a joke to tell family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters: Charlotte, Marie, Evelyn, and Ardith; his brothers: Warren (Clancy), Virgil and William (Bill); his daughter, Robin Cook Seabrook; granddaughter, Shanna Lynn Bales.

He is survived by his wife, Carla; his children: Pam (Ron) Foight of Beaver City, Steve (Denise) Bales, Randy Bales all of McCook, Tom (Sheila) Bales of Nebraska City, Randy (Dee) Doyle of Lincoln, Russ Doyle of McCook, Roxanne (Don) Owens of Indianola, and Rita Roberts of Monta Vista, CO; his sister, Sherry Hornkohl of McCook, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Viewing will be Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at the First Congregational Church with the Reverend Steve Bales officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
