OBITUARY

RICHARD ALLEN

Services for Richard Allen, 90, will be Friday, December 14, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton.

Richard Junior Allen was born April 3, 1922 to Richard and Alta (Woodcock) Allen in Albia, Iowa. He grew up in Iconium and graduated from Moravia High School. Richard was in WW II from 1942 until 1945 in the 14th Armored Division of the Army where he spent a year with General Patton in Europe.

He married Alberta Peter on March 23, 1947 and they were blessed with two children, Sharon and Charles. Richard farmed while he and Alberta raised their children. He enjoyed their vacations with the children and family over the years. Later they camped with family and friends at Red Haw Campgrounds near Chariton.

After moving to the farm near Williamson, he continued to farm and was a member of the Williamson Volunteer Fire Department. He was also inducted into the Lucas County Farm Bureau Ag Hall of Fame in 2008 and had his turn at Local School Board Township Trustees.

After retirement, Richard and Alberta spent the winters in Florida where he kept busy with woodcrafts. He enjoyed children, especially the little ones. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, friends and neighbors.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Alta; sister, Geraldine (Wendell) Cloyed; brothers, Wayne (Virginia) Allen and Mark (Barbara) Allen. Richard passed away December 10, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Alberta of Chariton; children, Sharon (Tom) Bochner of Clearwater, FL and Charles (Susan) Allen of Tampa, FL; four grandchildren, Jim (Lori) Bochner, Christine Bochner, Andrea (Martin) Saavedra, and Corey Allen; 4 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; along with nieces and nephews.
