Bernie was the youngest of 16 children born to Joe C. and Louise Avila of Hanford, California. She has lived her life of 64 years all in this area of Hanford, Visalia and, the past 30 years, Fresno.

After graduation from Lemoore High School in 1960, she worked for the original Beacon Oil Co. in Hanford.

In 1963, she met a great sailor from Lemoore Naval Air Station and on June 26, 1965, she and Lyle "Jim" Bricco were married at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lemoore. The same church where her parents were married in 1916.

In 1967, Bernie moved with her husband to his new job at Visalia Sight and Sound. They started their family of four, then moved to Fresno in 1977. With the children growing and more time for herself, she started working for Dr. Frank Cantrell as his Medical Transcriptionist for the past 23 years.

Bernie was the super mom, the perfect wife, the best friend anyone could ever have. Those who knew her can only add praise and complements to her life, her smile, her ways.

Bernie and her family are members of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Fresno.

The family would like to thank Dr. Perkins and his staff and St. Agnes Medical Center and all its staff who fought the battle by Bernadette's side. Thank you to all who have offered prayers for her life. Thank you to St. Anthony of Padua's Congregation and to Rev. Monsignor John A. Coelho-Harguindeguy and his staff for their help. Also a special thank you to the Knights of Columbus council #6092 and their wives for all that you have done for us.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe C. and Louise Avila; two brothers, Brother Joe Avila and Edward Avila; and three sisters, Louise Simas, Theresa Fugundes and Lucy Leal.

She is survived by Lyle "Jim" Bricco, her husband of 41 years; her sons Darren and his wife Maryann, and Randy and his fiancée, Brenda Miller; and her daughter, Kimberly White and her husband David and daughter Melissa. She has four grandchildren, Megan and Dean Bricco, and Mack and Nora White.

Bernie is also survived by five brothers, George Avila, Tommy Avila, Fernando Avila, Paul Avila and James Avila; and five sisters, Ida Madruga, Sister Mary Corinne Avila, Delores Garoogian, Lena Verdegaal and Josephine Sweet.
