Victim of Pneumonia and Had Been Ill Only A Few Days.
R.K. Calfee, one of the early settlers of this county, died at his home at Ada yesterday morning at 2 o'clock. The deceased was a victim of pneumonia, having been sick only a few days. He was well-known throughout the county and had many friends in this city. He was sixty-five years old and was survived by a widow and one son, Harold Calfee, and three daughters, Misses Josephine, Janie and Martha Calfee, all of Ada. Three sisters, Miss Florence Calfee, of this city. Mrs. G.L. Karnes, of Princeton, and Mrs. A.E. Bailey, of Athens, also survive him, as do three brothers, R.M. and A.B. Calfee, of Ada, and a brother [James Luther Calfee] who resides in the state of Washington. The funeral will be held from the home this afternoon at 2 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. J.L. McKenney of this city. Interment will be made in R.M. Calfee Cemetery near Cross Roads.

In 1882, he "operated in the coal mining regions of Colorado." He returned to West Virginia, married, and took up farming. He was 6'4 and 1/2" tall.
