He was raised on a ranch in the Bear Paw Mountains of Montana where his mother had married Roy Reeder of Chinook. These were delightful days for him, a place and time in his life where fond memories were made.
He was in the US Army with the 82nd Airborne and honorably discharged in 1947. He married Donna Beverly Whiterock in Malta, Montana September 27, 1948. Six children were born to them. He worked as a refrigeration mechanic and then as electric warehouse man. He enjoyed fishing, hiking, family, friends and playing pinochle. He is remembered as a man who loved his family, worked hard to make the best of what he had and with what life dealt him. He cared very much about doing what was right.
Survivors include his wife Donna Beverly of Augusta, Montana, son William and daughter Vicki Rae Brown both of Coram, Montana; daughters Donna Heffner of Dayton, Montana, Juanita Niswonger of The Woodlands, Texas and Elizabeth Anderson of Libby, Montana; 10 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Loved ones who preceded him in death include his mother Mamie Hayworth of Salem, Oregon, his father Nolan Matthews of Wichita Falls, Texas, his daughter Linda Lee Matthews of Havre, Montana, half-brother Clarence Alvin Hayworth of PreEll, Washington; Bert Hayworth of Canby, Oregon; Albert Matthews of Tyler, Texas; Grover and Richard Matthews of Longmont, Colorado; Harvey Paul McFatridge of Pagosa Springs, Colorado and Doffy Dean Anderson of Green City, Missouri; half-sisters Essie Matthews Preston and Bertha Matthews Jones (FAG# 10156745) of Paris, Texas.
