Isaiah was the son of William Martin Salyer & Nancy Raney Salyer. He married Phoebe Arnett, the daughter of Stephen & Elizabeth Howard Arnett, on August 12, 1837 in Floyd County, Kentucky. The couple were the parents of Cambridge Culbertson, Nancy, William W., Elizabeth, Stephen A., Abigail, Malinda Jane, Samuel H., David D., John Breckinridge and Amanda Salyer. Mr. Salyer supported his large family by farming his own land.
