Shirl Wallace White, 87, of Miami, OK, passed away on February 22, 2013.

He was one of ten children born to the late Luther and Mary White, Mar. 1, 1925, in Dora, MO. Shirl graduated from Coweta OK High School in 1942, received a BS from Northeastern State in 1950 and a MA from the University of Tulsa in 1957. After serving in the Army during World War II, he married the late Beverly Adcock White in 1949. They lived in Tulsa, before relocating to Miami in 1967.

Shirl was a public school teacher in Broken Arrow and Tulsa before accepting a teaching and communications division chairmanship at NEO. Although he received acclaim for the NEO theater productions and musicals he directed, he was equally respected as a caring educator and administrator.

Shirl was a member of First Christian Church or Miami and, before that, active in Churches of Christ throughout northeastern Oklahoma. He loved to sing and lead congregations in song. He also enjoyed writing poetry, fishing, and bowling.

Shirl is survived by three children: Ronald White, of Lake Jackson, TX; Randall White, of Dallas; and Roger White, of Houston. He is also survived by two brothers: Bob White, of Miami; and Orvind White, of Broken Arrow. Shirl had four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
