Carl E. "Jack" Alford, age 82, of Greenville passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 at Helia Health Care. There will be a memorial service on Friday, January 27, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Young Funeral Home, Greenville, IL. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Helia Healthcare Rehab Department.
Jack was born June 12, 1934 in Pinkstaff, IL to Arnold and Leona (Crawford) Alford. He married Joe Anne Wilson on July 18, 1953 in Granite City, IL. He is survived by his wife Joe Anne of Greenville; his children: Pamela Jo Alford of Highland, IL; Teresa Lynn Darnell of Greenville, IL; Heather File and husband Scott of Worden, IL. He is also survived by his sisters Mildred Proffit of Granite City. IL and Shirley Woodruff of Lawrenceville, IL; and a brother, Gary Alford of Lawrenceville, IL. He has 2 granchildren: William Edward Darnell of Greenville, IL and Kathleen and husband Andrew Sauls of Highland, IL and one great grandchild Dakota Sauls of Highland, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Dennis Edward Alford, and 13 brothers and sisters.
He graduated Lawrenceville High School and attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. He worked at McDonnell Douglas, National Lead as chief chemist, and Hewitt as a salesman. He started his own company called Alford Metal Company which manufactured solder, and at a later time, ceramics.
Jack was an avid softball player. He managed his own team called the Benjamins and ran Softball Central in Troy, Il for 2 years.
