Edith Mae Alford Simmons, 87, was the eighth of 16 children born to Arnold and Leona Crawford Alford. She shared many happy memories with her sisters and brothers. Edith moved to Bloomington right after high school and began a career at State Farm Insurance Cos. that would last 36 years as a certified public secretary. While in Bloomington, she met the love and heart of her life, George "Jesse" Simmons. They were married June 24, 1951, and spent 58 wonderful years together before he passed away Jan. 28, 2010. They were never separated in life, and now will be together forever.

Edith enjoyed her time at State Farm, but family and church were her main loves. She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. After retirement, she moved with her husband back to Lawrenceville. During their time there, they delivered meals to the elderly and volunteered at the Sign of the Kingdom. Edith and Jesse made almost yearly trips to Utah to visit their children and grandchildren and spent many happy times with family.

Edith’s survivors include children, Linda (Robert) Fiack, Steven (Lis) Simmons and Jeannette Simmons; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four brothers and four sisters.

She was preceded in death by her sweetheart, Jesse; infant daughter, Connie Lou; her parents and several siblings.
