Lois Barbero
September 29, 1925 - January 26, 2017

Lois Barbero, age 91, passed away peacefully, after a long illness, on January 26, 2017, in Austin. Texas.

Lois was born in Lodi, California in 1925. She graduated from Tokay High School in Lodi, California and briefly attended College of the Pacific in Stockton, California. Lois followed her high school love, Gene Barbero who enlisted in the Navy to pursue his passion for airplanes. She married Gene in Oklahoma at services officiated by Reverend Oral Roberts. During Gene's military career, Lois traveled with him to various posts in California, Oklahoma and Hawaii. After his military career, Lois lived in Lodi, California and Los Altos, California. She later moved with her family to Westport, Connecticut and then settled in Houston. After retirement, Lois and Gene moved to Boerne, Texas, and later to Georgetown, Texas. Her final move was to Austin, Texas to be near her children.

Lois enjoyed many of her husband's interests – motorcycle trips around the Hill County and flying airplanes around Texas with Gene. After her family, her greatest passions were entertaining, poolside or on the patio, and playing tennis. Lois played a solid game of tennis until she hung up her racquet at the age of 78.

Lois was an active hospice volunteer in Houston in the 1980s. During the 1990's she was a board member of Fisher House in San Antonio, a hospital volunteer at Wilford Hall in San Antonio, a literacy volunteer in Boerne and an AARP volunteer during tax season.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Eva Myers and her husband, Eugene Barbero. She is survived by her daughter, Michele and her husband Richard Thompson of Austin and Llano, Texas; son, Christopher and her grandson, Michael of Austin, Texas.

Private burial services will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
