He married Martha Wagner in 1904, and they had three children. They were; Alice, Martin, and Royal Birch.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1946, his parents, three brothers, and four sisters. Surviving him were were his two sons and his daughter, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, and three brothers; Clarence, Edward, and Fred Birch.
