Elizabeth "Betty" L. Seamann, 87 of Spalding, NE passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, NE.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2017 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding with Fr. James Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Dolce-Scheef Mortuary in Spalding is in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth Louise Seamann, daughter of Martin and Gertrude (Krick) Glaser, was born April 27, 1929 at Spalding, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding, NE, attended school at Greeley County District #10 through the eighth grade, and graduated from Spalding Academy in 1947. Following graduation, she taught school at District #10 during the1948-1949 school year

On August 24, 1949, Betty married Ambrose Seamann at St. Michael’s Church in Spalding, NE. Betty taught school at two Boone County rural schools from 1949-1951, while the couple made their home on three different Boone County farms before purchasing a farm in Boone and Wheeler counties in 1954. While raising their 6 sons the couple were involved in farming and later a dairy operation, where Betty helped with the cows and chores. In September 1991, Betty and Brose retired to Spalding in the house that they had built. She worked at Friendship Village in Spalding for a few years and later cleaned the Spalding Public Schools. On August 5, 2011, Betty entered Friendship Villa in Spalding and moved to the Greeley Care Home in 2012.

Betty was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, a member, officer and prefect of St. Anne’s Altar Society, a member of the Catholic Daughters and American Legion Auxiliary, and past president of Spalding Academy Alumni. She was secretary for Greeley County Farm Bureau for many years and a member of Bonanza Homemakers and Leisure Hour Clubs. She baked and decorated wedding cakes for 30 years, and enjoyed gardening and canning. She was a great seamstress and made several western shirts over the years. She especially enjoyed the vacations they shared from 1968-1981 with Ballwegs, Feiks and Brauns.

Betty is survived by her six sons: Dean (Carol) Seamann of Spalding, NE; Don (Regina) Seamann of Hinton, IA; Duane “Boots” (Maureen) Seamann of Spalding, NE; Eugene (Deborah) Seamann of Vine Grove, KY; Paul Seamann of Beckley, WV; Joseph (Sharon) Seamann of Spalding, NE; three sisters: Jean Ryan of Greeley, NE; Teresa Marisch of Spalding, NE; Marcella Braun of Columbus, NE; two brothers: Dan (Shirley) Glaser of Spalding, NE; Clarence (Lea) Glaser of Florida; one sister-in-law: Caroline Glaser of Spalding, NE; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and one on the way; along with many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Brose on August 23, 1994; two sisters: Rosemary and husband John Smith, Rita and husband Bob Bauer; a brother: Francis Glaser; brothers-in-law: George Braun and Bob Ryan; nephews: Jerry Smith, Joe Bauer, Dean Braun; Jerry Seamann, Frances Fitzsimmons, and Mikey Seamann. Betty was the last survivor of Ambrose’s generation on the Seamann side.
