Born October 6, 1921 in Clarendon County, he was the son of the late Dr. C. E. Gamble and Marion Hicks Gamble. In 1942 as a senior at Clemson College, his ROTC unit was called into WWII. Returning from the war, Julian taught in the East Clarendon School system, and worked with his brother in the Esso Oil Business. He was a 70 year Mason, member of the American Legion, and a member of the Turbeville Southern Methodist Church. In 1964 the Lord called him into the ministry where he served Southern Methodist Churches in Hilda, South Carolina, Goodlettsville, Tennessee, and Clinton, South Carolina. He was privileged to serve as President of the Southern Methodist College, and also as President of the Southern Methodist Denomination. He had the heart of a servant, and touched many lives throughout his life. Julian left a legacy to his family that says, “God is first and family second.” He set the example of integrity and fairness to all and that love and giving to others is a gift from God.
Julian is preceded in death by the love of his life, Harriett Harden Gamble; a granddaughter, Nichole Rose Knight; a sister, Sarabel Gamble Roquemore; and two brothers, Charlton E Gamble and T. G. Gamble.
