His family immigrated to the United States about 1862, settling in Allamakee County, Iowa, where he was living in 1870, age 18. He later married Flora White, who was born in Wisconsin. They had one daughter, Mary Henrietta, who in the 1895 Iowa State Census and the 1900 US Census was enumerated with John's father William F. Walker and mother Bridget (Malady) Walker in Sheldon, Iowa. No other records of John and Flora have been located, and other family members are the source of his death in 1911 in North Dakota, but this is undocumented. The Death Certificate for daughter Mary in 1928 shows her parents as John Walker, born in Wisconsin (an error), and mother Flora Flood, born in Wisconsin. Her last name "White" is based on Victor Kleber's Walker Family Genealogy, complied in 1965, based on decades of research.
