Nona Lorene Gibson, 84, left us on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 to be with her Heavenly Father. Lorene was born on December 31, 1932 in Adair, Oklahoma to Rola and Sarah Crow. Her family later moved to Chouteau, Oklahoma, where she spent her childhood and graduated from high school.
She attended college at NEO in Miami, Oklahoma but transferred to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah where she met the love of her life, Edmund Gibson. Lorene graduated from NSU in 1954 with a bachelor’s degree in Education, and she and Ed married the same year.
She began her 30-year teaching career in Osage County, and spent most of those years teaching in Muskogee Public Schools. Lorene was a longtime member of Grandview Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school classes for many years. Lorene will be long-remembered for her love for teaching children and passion for giving and serving others.
Lorene is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Lori and Shawn Pumphrey, and Lynne Harmon; grandchildren, Kyle Pumphrey, Jordan Pumphrey, Cooper Harmon, and Brady Harmon; and brother, RE Crow.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Edmund; son-in-law, Scott Harmon; parents, Rola and Sarah Crow; and brother, Carl Crow.
Visitation will take place 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Saturday, January 28, 2017 and 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday, January 29, 2017 at the funeral home. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, January 29, 2017, from 2 to 4 pm. Funeral services will be held at Grandview Baptist Church, Muskogee, at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 30, 2017.
