Killed On Bridge Near Glennville
DeLoach Hit By Car- Two Brewton-Parker Students In
Automobile

Glennville, Ga., May 27- Run over by an automobile as he leaned over the edge of a small bridge at Mendes four miles north of here about 1 o'clock this morning, Troy DeLoach,36-year-old World War veteran and state prison farm employee, received injuries that proved fatal two hours later at a Jesup hospital.
In the car were Cyril Kicklighter, who was driving, and Peyton Burkhalter,19-year-old Brewton Parker students, who were on the way to their homes in Mendes after completing their years work at the Mount Vernon-Ailey institution.
According to them, Mr. DeLoach was in such a position on the bridge that he could not be clearly distinguished at any distance, and not being sure but that the object in front of them was a small animal of some sort, they crashed into it rather than run the risk of going over an embankment at either side of the road.
Immediately after the accident, Dr. DeLoach was brought to Glennville and from here was carried to Jesup in an ambulance. After his death, the body was returned here pending funeral services, which have been set for 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Love's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church near Mendes.
Mr. DeLoach is survived by his wife and two daughters, Gene and Sue of Mendes; three brothers, Lester DeLoach of Waycross, Henry DeLoach and Slaton DeLoach of Mendes, three sisters, Mrs. F.D. Kicklighter of Glennville, Mrs. Lamar Purvis and Mrs. G.S. Guy of Mendes and other relatives, Mr. and Mrs. O.R. Kicklighter, parents of the young man driving the car, are also related to him by marriage. The Burkhalter boy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Linton Wilson.
