Greenville (Texas) Morning Herald, Tue, 22 Jul 1952, page 8, Lon Norsworthy Rites Are Held

Last rites were observed at 4 p.m. Monday from Wesley Methodist Church for Lon Norsworthy, 64, well-known accountant, church and civic leader who died at 3:24 a.m. Sunday in a local hospital.

Death followed an illness of three weeks duration.

Services were conducted by the Rev. John W. Morphis and burial was in Forest Park.

Pallbearers were Luten (sic) Henson, George Davis, R.L. Warren, Sr., Floyd McNatt, Edgar Hutchins and Doyle Rogers.

Members of the Williams Bible Class and the Board of Stewards of Wesley church were honorary pallbearers.

Gray-Sorrells Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Norsworthy, who had lived in Greenville since 1918, was a native of Collinston, La. Born on November 24, 1883, he was the son of A.M. (sic) and Annie Norsworthy. He was educated in the public schools of Louisiana and Sula College at New Orleans.

On coming to Greenville in 1918, he became connected with the Hopkins-McLain Wholesale Grocer Co. He was later bookkeeper for the Graham-Fagg Co., and for the past several years had been accountant for Henson and Sons.

Mr. Norsworthy was married to Flora McDonald in 1907. She died on October 20, 1930. In 1932, he was married to Mrs. Willie Smith, who survives.

For more than 30 years, Mr. Norsworthy had been an active worker in Wesley church. He served many years as a member of the board of stewards, and was assistant teacher of the Williams Bible Class. Friends pointed to him as a devoted husband and father and a loyal and trustworthy friend.

During the Centennial celebration in Greenville in 1950, Mr. Norsworthy wrote and compiled the history of Wesley church. It voiced his love for the church in the following tribute:

"I think of my church as a vast treasurehouse (sic) of memories. Memories that are dear to the hearts of its people. Remembering the many counsels that have come to us through the ministry of His word during all these years. Remembering some friend who worshiped with us, some word of cheer or comfort, some handclasp when it meant more than words, some life that touched mine and left me a better man, more courtesy that only a real friend would extend, some word or deed that made me feel surely God in His infinite goodness and mercy must have prompted. These are the things that make me love Wesley Church. And the people of Wesley Church are Wesley Church."

Mr. Norsworthy is survived by his wife; three sons, Edward Norsworthy of Dallas, Darby Norsworthy of Waco and Bobby Norsworthy of Greenville; one daughter, Patricia Norsworthy of this city; three brothers, Tom Norsworthy of Crossett, Ark., Alton Norsworthy of Clinton, La., and Sam Norsworthy of Bastrop, La.; two sisters, Mrs. J.G. Pyron and Mrs. John Norsworthy of Collinston, La.; and one step-son Billy Joe Smith of this city.
