Wednesday, May 6, 1936, page 2
Lewis Shewmaker, 20 years old, died of meningitis Monday night at his home a mile south of New Salem following an illness of less than 30 hours. An autopsy performed this morning showed that death was due to meningitis, but it is reported that it was a sporadic form of the disease and not the epidemic form. Survivors, besides the parents, are the brothers and sisters, William, Delbert, Elizabeth, James, and Cecil, at home, and Mrs. Isabel Ball, of Mays. Funeral arrangements had not been completed.
