AGUILAR -- Cayetano "Tony" Aguilar passed away quietly in his home on October 8, 2005 after fighting a courageous battle with colon cancer. He was surrounded by his wife and four children. Tony was born the eighth of 15 children, on April, 4, 1930 in Madrid, New Mexico to Filomeno and Bernardita Roybal Aguilar. He grew up mostly in Bernalillo, New Mexico. He married his eternal companion, Barbara, in 1955. They had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Tony was a High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he served faithfully for 32 years. Tony was a prominent hair stylist, owning his own salons for more than 40 years. He loved competition and did so around the world. He served the New Mexico Cosmetology Association as President and/or Styles Director for over twenty years. He competed in the Olympics of Hair Styling and was a judge and translator of the Olympics for a decade. He won the Community Leadership award twice from New Mexico and was 2nd in the National Acclaim competition. He had recently celebrated a reunion with his shipmates from the USS Currier, from the Korean War era. His greatest achievement in life was his family. Those who survive him are his wife, Barbara and four children, Pam Lett (Dan), Greg Aguilar (Nita), Kathy Clark (Glenn) and Mark Aguilar (Annette). He had ten grandchildren, Hannah and Sarah Lett; Glenda (Lucero) and Cody Aguilar, Jamie (Horspool), Rachel (Devine), and Aaron Clark, Danae (West), Christopher, and Eden Aguilar, and seven great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Bryson, Brooklyn, Grace, Aurora, Ethan, and Olivia. Also surviving him are his beloved siblings, Molly Navarro, Filimon Aguilar, Raymond Aguilar, Edward Aguilar, Jennie Sandoval and Leroy Aguilar. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings, Hipolito Aguilar, Marianita Aguilar, Rita Garcia, Avenicio, Maria Antonia, Manuel de Atocha and twin brothers, Ernest and Gilbert Aguilar. Tony loved his numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, good friends and mentors. Please join us in a celebration of his life on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Haines Street Chapel, 5709 Haines St NE. There will be a viewing at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Arrangements are being made by French's Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
