He was born in Maxwell the son of Candido & Celia (Lopez)Herrera. He had 52 years of Federal Service, that began in December, 1942 in the U.S. Army Air Corps. His military assingnments were in the Southwest Pacific & Far East. After his six years of active duty he transferred to the United States Air Force Reserve. He returned to his ranch & retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. In 1953 Candido was appointed rural mail carrier in Maxwell. His routes were consolidated under the Springer Post Office in 1975 where he retired in 2000. While a postal employee he received the 50 year pin of Federal Service, became a member of the National Safety Council Million Mile Club & received the Expert Driver Award.
