George Shurran Aborn, 87, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed from this life to the next on January 17, 2017 at Charlier Hospice in Evansville, Indiana.

He was born October 1, 1929 in Mt. Carmel, Illinois to Oma Hope (Goldman) and Gilbert Vandeveer Aborn. He married Peggy Churchwell on July 3, 1953 in Carmi, Illinois and she survives.

George was a self-employed welder, and proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy, of Mt. Carmel; three daughters: Carol (Loren) Evans of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, Patti (Bill) Ratcliffe of Bone Gap, Illinois, and Kelly (Mike) Murphy of Grayville, Illinois; one son, Shannon (Tammy) Aborn of Mt. Vernon, Indiana; one son-in-law, Michael L. Young; four sisters: Antoinette Andry of Paoli, Indiana, Jessie Williams of Mt. Carmel, Amanta Williams of Jasper, Indiana, and Roberta Mayes of Athens, Georgia; ten grandchildren: Mike (Amber) Young, Jessica (Mark) Rogers, Aaron (Heather) Kern, Carrie (Mike) Wright, Tara Ratcliffe, Joseph Murphy, Jamie (Ashley) Murphy, Patrick Murphy, Steven Cote, and Robert Cote; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Georgia Lynn Young; one brother, Harlan Aborn; and one sister, Barbara Campbell.

Services at Ingram Funeral Home in Albion, Illinois. Burial, with Military Honors, at Antioch Cemetery in Cowling.
