Bertha Alvina Deutschman age 93 of Windom, formerly of Westbrook, passed away Monday, November 7, 2016 at Sogge Good Samaritan Center in Windom. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 10 at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Interment is in Westbrook Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.Bertha Alvina Deutschman was born March 2, 1923 in Nobles County, Minnesota to John and Ella (Schonberger) Manwarren. She attended grade school and received her GED through Worthington schools in 1972. On December 14, 1939 Bertha was united in marriage to Arthur Deutschman at the Lutheran Church parsonage in Luverne. She helped her husband with all the field work and chores on the farm. Bertha did sewing for her family and enjoyed her garden and flowers. She survived a chicken barn explosion in 1958 and recovered to help with farming and raising her sons. In 1972 Bertha started to work for Fingerhut in Windom until they closed. She has made her home in Windom since 1989. Arthur died February 20, 2002 from complications of an accident and diabetes. Bertha was a Girl Scout and 4H leader’s assistant and assisted with quilt projects at her church.Bertha is survived by her son Gene Deutschman, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, son Dennis Deutschman on November 28, 2012, and stepson Dareld Deutschman.
